About
A Shared Connection with Nature
The UK is a nation of nature lovers. David Attenborough is a national treasure. Nature books cram the shelves of bookshops. Many of us share an appreciation of nature.
Study after study show the benefits of spending time in green and blue spaces. This physical connection to the seasons, places and the flora and fauna that lives around us supports our wellbeing.
Creativity is also a wellspring of wellbeing. I personally find that I need to make, to craft. To do something with my hands. I find it incredibly calming, grounding and important to who I am.
As well as a source of wonder, the natural world offers an aesthetic that I am drawn to again and again. I crave it: both being out in natural environments and bringing nature in. That aesthetic, and the poetic and artistic responses to nature have their fashions and trends. Like any element of culture. Not every visual style works for me. Not every book on nature even scratches the surface.
The Shared Nature treasury is a curated collection of wonders, little and large, that do resonate. It is a journey into the culture of nature. To discover the artefacts that celebrate, the books that enhance, the creativity that restores our connections (to the natural world and our best selves) and treasures that elevate the day to day.
Above all, the Shared Nature treasury is dedicated my late parents. I shared a lot with them; our natures were similar. My dad was a birdwatcher. My mum had an eye for flowers and art. We share these loves with so many others. This collection is for them and for us.
