About the project
A Shared Connection with Nature
The UK is a nation of nature lovers. David Attenborough is a national treasure. Nature books cram the shelves of bookshops. Many of us share an appreciation of nature. In one way or another.
Study after study show the benefits of spending time in green and blue spaces. This physical connection to the seasons, places and the flora and fauna that lives around us supports our wellbeing.
Unfortunately, not everyone has the same opportunity to access or benefit from natural environments. The seed for this project was planted by a discussion on Twitter between people who were house-bound but still wanted that connection with nature. Is it possible to bring something of that nature connection inside I wondered? Even a little bit?
This seed germinated in the wake of loosing my mother. I shared a lot with my late parents. Our natures were similar. My dad was a birdwatcher. My mum had an aesthetic eye for flowers and for art. We all loved to walk in the countryside, explore new places and take lots of photos along the way.
I miss sharing random observations and questions about birds, wildlife and the weather. I miss sending them arty nature cards and flowers. But I still love to mess around and make things.
This project is my tribute to my folks and to all that we share with so many others. To our many and varied connections to each other, to nature and to our own best and fundamentally shared natures.
A simple idea
The idea behind the project is to send arty nature cards to random addresses in the UK. The aim is to send a few every month.
That’s it.
The hope is – simply – that some of the these will ‘land’.
The greetings cards are printed at home and feature nature-inspired art. They can be used and sent to others. Or kept.
A postcard and covering card feature some of the seasonal flora and fauna that I’ve been enjoying over the previous month.
